Gordon Arbogast

Dr. Gordon Arbogast has served Jacksonville University as a professor since 1994 and as a department head and Associate Dean/ Director of Graduate Programs (2005-2014). He began his formal education at the U.S. Military Academy, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1963. Gordon served over 27 years in the US Army commanding troops in Korea, the Dominican Republic, Vietnam and Germany. He also served at the Pentagon (the Army General Staff) in plans and operations. The Army sent him for graduate studies at Georgia Tech (Masters in Electrical Engineering and a business masters 1971) and a Ph.D. at Clemson University.  From late 1986 to 1989 he chaired the Engineering Department at his Alma Mater (West Point) and pioneered a new major and department (Systems Engineering). His last assignment was as the associate director of engineering and technology at the Defense Communications Agency. There he was given the lead in transforming the agency to the now current Defense Information Systems Agency.

Retiring at the rank of full colonel in 1990, he worked at the Contel Technology Center in Washington DC. He was a Principal Scientist and Assistant Lab Director prior to Contel’s acquisition by GTE. He then became the vice president of a 2000 person System Technology Group at Pacific Bell in San Francisco (1991 to 1994). While there he chaired the Bellcore (formerly Bell Labs) System Technology Committee and worked to maintain high-quality systems during a 45% downsizing of his Group. He accepted a professorship at Jacksonville University in 1994. While Associate Dean, he was a primary force in securing coveted AACSB accreditation for the business college. Also at JU, he consulted with a number of local firms to include the Jacksonville Jaguars. He is a gentleman with an outstanding background, as he continues to share his many gifts with others.
